Brian Seiler

Brian Seiler was named as the new chief information officer at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in June 2025. Seiler brings a wealth of experience in higher education IT leadership, with past roles at institutions such as the University of Illinois and Princeton University, and most recently serving as CIO at Tennessee Technological University.

Over the course of his career, Seiler has led transformative initiatives in areas ranging from research cyberinfrastructure and enterprise systems to information security and user-focused service design. He’s known for his collaborative leadership style and for building strong, mission-aligned IT teams that empower academic and research excellence.

One of the guiding principles Seiler brings to °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ is his personal motto: "Technology as a tool instead of a hurdle." This reflects his deep commitment to making technology accessible, supportive, and strategically aligned with the work of students, faculty, and staff.
